1. START WITH LOCATION
Do you have a favorite location you like to visit? Are you a city person or a country person? A lot of your personality shows in the location you choose for your session. Usually, when I am in the process of booking a session, the first question that comes up is, “What is the look you want for your session?” You can get that vibe within a short drive in Pittsburgh. Take for instance, Jasmine’s senior session. She wanted a tropical feel for her senior photos (photographed at Phipps Conservatory & Botanical Gardens), but she also wanted to capture her senior photos on the Pittsburgh bridges.
2. INCORPORATE SPORTS OR FAVORITES IN THE SESSION
Almost always, when you talk to someone who is passionate about something, those passions shine through in their personality. I love hearing about my clients accomplishments and sharing in their stories. The more we get talking, the more comfortable we are together and the less stressed they are behind the camera.
3. SOMETIMES YOU JUST NEED TO HAVE FUN
A photography session doesn’t always need to be formal. One of my absolute favorite things to do is photograph special events. When people are mingling around and having fun, the last thing they are doing is wondering about what they look like or feeling awkward. Last year, I was asked to photograph a friends’ Sweet 16 birthday party, which also happened to be a Murder Mystery Party that my husband hosted. It was a super fun evening and we had an amazing time capturing sweet Maria and all of the fun celebrating with her family and friends!
All of that to say, no matter what, we can find ways to make you feel comfortable in front of the camera, which will help your personality shine through and capture unique portraits for you and your family to cherish forever!
